Position Summary

  • Title: Choir Director
  • Department: Reports to Director of Fine Arts and Director of Campus Ministry 
  • Classification: Part Time for 2026-2027 school year
  • Schedule: As determined by supervisor. 

Overview

Program Directors are responsible for leading and managing the artistic, administrative, and liturgical functions of their respective fine arts discipline (Theatre, Dance, Band, Choir). This role involves developing and implementing a robust program, directing liturgies, performances, events, concerts, etc., and fostering a creative and inclusive environment for students, parents and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Supports and upholds the St. Pius X High School mission, philosophy, goals, and policies.
  • Serves as a Christian role model in speech, conduct, and action at all times.
  • Designs, develops, and implements a comprehensive choral program that promotes artistic excellence, meets educational standards, and promotes a greater understanding of the significance of music in Catholic liturgical practice.
  • Provides leadership and direction for all aspects of the choral program, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and expectations.
  • Directs and oversees concerts, liturgies, and other performances, ensuring high-quality preparation and execution.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Fine Arts and the Director of Campus Ministry on the choral program budget responsibly and monitors expenditures to ensure fiscal stewardship.
  • Cultivates positive relationships with students, parents, community organizations, and other stakeholders to support and promote the program.
  • Mentors students in their artistic, personal, and spiritual growth through curricular and extracurricular opportunities.
  • Pursues professional growth and incorporates current trends, best practices, and innovations in music education.
  • Oversees the safe use, maintenance, and management of facilities, equipment, and resources associated with the choral program.
  • Administers the daily operations of the choral program, including recurring rehearsals throughout the year.
  • Selects and prepares music for liturgies, concerts, and special events.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Fine Arts and other stakeholders to develop and maintain the annual calendar of events.
  • Collaborates in the planning and production of musical theatre performances.
  • Supervises and supports extracurricular vocal ensembles.
  • Maintains inventories of uniforms, music, equipment, and instruments.
  • Utilizes educational music technology to enhance instruction and student learning.
  • Coordinates recording, sound, and related music technology needs.
  • Plans and facilitates music-related field trips, tours, and travel opportunities.
  • Oversees student choral organizations and leadership groups.
  • Coordinates participation in TAPPS choral competitions and events.
  • Coordinates recognition programs, awards ceremonies, and banquet activities in collaboration with the Director of Fine Arts.
  • Coordinates concerts, rehearsals, stage setup, publicity, and printed programs in collaboration with the Director of Fine Arts.
  • Coordinates student performances for school and community events in collaboration with the Director of Fine Arts.
  • Approaches responsibilities with enthusiasm, optimism, professionalism, and a willingness to coach and be coached.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Fine Arts, Principal, and/or President.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Commitment to embrace the Catholic Mission and Dominican Charism of St. Pius X High School.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • Professional attitude and appearance. 
  • Completion of safe environment training (currently Safe Haven). 
  • Bachelor's degree in related field preferred. 
  • Program knowledge; director experience preferred. 
  • An understanding of Catholic liturgical norms and practices.
