Mainframe Printer Computer Operator Government Publishing Office (Washington, DC)

We are looking for multiple Mainframe Printer Computer Operators (and Lead Operators) to provide onsite operational support for the U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO) mainframe data center in Washington, DC. The focus of this role is to support mainframe printing, processing, job scheduling, and Production Control operations.

This is a 3-year contract, full-time onsite at the U.S. Government Publishing Office, 732 N. Capitol Street NW, Washington, DC 20401.

Multiple positions are available across two Monday-Friday shifts:

  • Shift 1: 7:00 AM 3:30 PM
  • Shift 2: 3:00 PM 11:30 PM

This is a W2 role with Stage 4 Solutions. Health benefits and 401(k) are offered.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate and maintain high-speed laser printers, impact printers, and burster equipment within a mainframe data center environment.
  • Set up printers according to instructions from mainframe computer consoles and load paper, toner, developer, and other required printer supplies.
  • Monitor print operations, promptly remove completed print jobs, organize output, and prepare reports and printed materials for customer distribution.
  • Execute job scheduling, monitoring, and troubleshooting within TSO/ISPF environments.
  • Submit, schedule, and track mainframe jobs using Job Control Language (JCL) within TSO.
  • Process and manage report distribution and provide operational assistance to Production Control staff.
  • Identify system and printer malfunctions and communicate directly with mainframe operating system or printer maintenance contractors to support timely resolution.
  • Handle printer supplies and media, including unloading boxes of paper and forms required for print operations.
  • Maintain a clean and organized printer area, including removal of empty boxes, toner containers, loose paper, and coordination of full recycling bins.
  • Ensure timely execution of print jobs and accurate handling and tracking of scheduled processing tasks.
  • (Lead Role) Provide leadership and operational support to personnel assigned to the shift.

Requirements:

  • In-depth experience operating and maintaining high-speed laser printers, impact printers, and burster equipment within a mainframe data center environment.
  • Experience with job scheduling, monitoring, and troubleshooting within TSO/ISPF environments.
  • Experience submitting, scheduling, and tracking jobs using Job Control Language (JCL) within TSO.
  • Experience handling printer supplies, paper, toner, developer, print media, and completed production output.
  • Experience troubleshooting operational issues and coordinating with system and printer maintenance personnel.
  • Ability to perform the physical duties associated with production printing operations, including handling and unloading boxes of paper and forms.
  • (Lead Role) Experience providing leadership or oversight within a production, data center, or similar operational environment.
